Indonesia Travel Recommendations - Discovering Indonesia

Hello friends of Indonesian Culture, still curious about Indonesian tourism? On this occasion I will share my experience and the Indonesian Culture team regarding several tourist destinations in Indonesia that you must visit if you are in Indonesia.

Spanning a distance equivalent to that of New York to Los Angeles when measured from east to west, Indonesia's archipelago of over 17,000 islands presents a world of possibilities for travelers. I will give you tourist attractions that must be visited if you are in Indonesia.

1. Ubud

Dubbed as Bali's "Green Heart," Ubud is a cultural hub brimming with art and surrounded by lush rice paddies. It's conveniently situated just an hour away from Bali's international airport, making it an ideal starting point for your Indonesian adventure. Notably, it is also the residence of one of Bali's royal families, and it boasts the magnificent Peliatan Royal Palace and numerous other traditional temples. Stroll along the narrow streets dotted with warungs, bohemian bars, and quaint coffee shops to immerse yourself in the local ambiance.

2. Gili Island

Your tropical paradise awaits on these tiny islands. The Gili Islands, composed of Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, and Gili Meno, offer a castaway experience. Cars are prohibited, creating a laid-back and relaxed atmosphere. The snorkeling is exceptional with clear waters and various coral reefs to discover. Take a boat from Bali or Lombok, and soon you'll find yourself walking barefoot on the white sandy beaches, enjoying cocktails while gazing at breathtaking sunsets.

3. Komodo National Park

Believe it or not, genuine dragons exist in the world! Head to Komodo Island, part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Komodo National Park located near Flores Island, to witness them in person. These massive, scaly creatures are the star of the show, but you'll also be treated to breathtaking scenery as you sail between the small, wooded islands dotted throughout the region. Rinca Island, which is adjacent to Komodo, is greener and more mountainous, offering stunning vistas and satisfying hiking trails.

4. Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta, often referred to as the "cultural heart of Java," is a city ruled by a monarchy and a prominent hub for Javanese arts. It's also home to two remarkable UNESCO World Heritage temples located just beyond the city limits: Borobudur, the world's largest Buddhist temple complex, and Prambanan, Indonesia's largest Hindu temple. For an excellent shopping experience, take a becak to Jalan Malioboro, a lively street renowned for its diverse selection of souvenirs and goods.

Mount Bromo

Mount Bromo is widely recognized as the most picturesque volcano in Java, boasting a perfectly shaped cinder cone that makes sunrise at the site a breathtaking experience. On the way to Mount Bromo, you will traverse small villages, offering a glimpse into local life beyond typical tourist destinations. Board a 4×4 jeep and drive across the deserted volcanic plains, leading to the base of the mountain. Ascend the stairs to peer directly into the volcano's crater.

5. Bukit Lawang

Located on the outskirts of Gunung Leuser National Park in North Sumatra, lies a quaint village. It's an ideal place to embark on an adventure and venture into the dense Sumatran jungle, in search of semi-wild orangutans. As tourism isn't as prevalent in Sumatra compared to other parts of Indonesia, the journey to this village offers a scenic and captivating drive through stunning countryside.

Conclusion

To sum up, Indonesia is a land filled with an abundance of natural beauty, cultural diversity, and exciting adventures. Be it the grand temples in Yogyakarta, the wild orangutans in Sumatra, the stunning beaches, or the majestic Komodo dragons, there is an endless array of spectacular sights and experiences to discover. Whether you are passionate about history, nature, or simply seeking a one-of-a-kind escape, Indonesia has something special for everyone. With its welcoming hospitality and captivating charm, Indonesia is a must-see destination that will undoubtedly create cherished memories that last a lifetime.
