Hello Indonesian Culture friends, back again with me admin from Indonesia Culture, after discussing Exploring the Hidden Gems of the Indonesian Island of Sumbawa on this occasion I will bring a discussion about Exploring Indonesian Culinary Delights - Foods That Must Be Try by Tourists.

You have to know that Indonesia has a very diverse and delicious culinary wealth, of course. There are so many Indonesian specialties which are favorites for tourists when visiting Indonesia.

Exploring Indonesian Culinary Delights - Foods That Must Be Try by Tourists

Here I list some Indonesian specialties that you should try if you visit Indonesia:

Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice)

One of the most popular Indonesian dishes in the world is Nasi Goreng. This fried rice is made by cooking white rice with Indonesian spices, as well as other ingredients like eggs, chicken, or shrimp. It's easy to find this dish throughout Indonesia, particularly at night when it's available in all parts of the country. Nasi Goreng is typically served as a main course.

Rendang

The second dish is Rendang, a traditional beef dish from West Sumatra known for its unique blend of Indonesian spices and tender meat. The recipe typically involves cooking beef or mutton in coconut milk along with lemongrass, lime leaves, chili, and other spices. Despite being a regional specialty, Rendang is readily available in many parts of Indonesia and is highly recommended for its delicious taste.

Sate

Additionally, Sate is a quintessential Indonesian dish comprising of meat chunks skewered on bamboo sticks and grilled over charcoal. It is typically served with peanut or soy sauce. Indonesia has several variations of Sate, including chicken, beef, goat, and rabbit. You might come across regional variations of Sate, featuring different meat types, depending on where you travel in Indonesia.

Gado-gado

Gado-gado is an ideal choice for vegetarians. It is an Indonesian vegetable salad that combines a variety of fresh raw vegetables, such as long beans, bean sprouts, and kale, served with peanut sauce. Gado-gado is typically accompanied by boiled eggs and crackers. If you visit Indonesia and crave some late-night culinary delights, gado-gado can easily be found.

Nasi Padang

Nasi Padang is another must-try dish, which is often served as a main course. It is actually a complementary dish to Rendang, which was discussed earlier in this article. Nasi Padang is a typical West Sumatran rice dish, consisting of steamed white rice served with a variety of dishes, such as rendang, chicken curry, and sambalado. These dishes are typically served in small plates alongside the rice.

Bakso

Have you ever heard of this food called Bakso? Bakso is a type of food that resembles ping pong balls and is made from a mixture of beef and tapioca flour. These meatballs are typically served in a bowl of soup and accompanied by noodles and bean sprouts.

Soto

Continuing with soups, there is a traditional Indonesian food called Soto. Soto is a chicken soup that is served with rice or rice cakes and additional ingredients such as boiled eggs, bean sprouts, and crackers. This soup is typically prepared with chicken broth, which has a rich Indonesian flavor and is served hot.

Martabak Telur (Egg Martabak)

The final food I recommend is Egg Martabak. This fried bread is made from dough filled with ingredients like eggs, meat, and other fillings. It is usually served with a spicy sauce and tastes best when eaten hot. Besides Egg Martabak, there is another version called Martabak Manis, made from a mixture of flour, sugar, and eggs. It is served with various toppings such as chocolate jam, peanuts, bananas, and cheese, among others.

Maybe it's enough for me to explain some Indonesian specialties that if you visit Indonesia, you have to try these delicious foods. Actually, there are still many other delicious and typical Indonesian foods, if you are interested, maybe I will give them in the next post. That's all from me and thanks for reading.
